EU-China Business Summit Joint Declaration
Created in 2003 and held annually, the EU China Business Summit is the most high-level platform for exchange between EU and Chinese business and political leaders. The Summit provides business leaders from China and Europe with a unique networking opportunity during which key matters of common interest are addressed. The 6th EU-China Business Summit will be held on the 6th of October 2010 in Brussels, Belgium. It takes place during the Belgian Presidency of the European Union and will be coordinated by the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium along with BUSINESSEUROPE and CCPIT.
The EU China Business Summit is being held in parallel to the annual Summit of Political Leaders from the two regions. As such, the Business Summit is not only an excellent opportunity for European and Chinese companies to express their ideas to the political leaders present, but also a high-level networking opportunity gathering Chinese businesspeople and officials. Nearly 300 participants and over 20 high-level speakers are expected, including: Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and the Belgian Prime Minister.
Innovation and creativity are necessary to overcome the current crisis and lay the foundations for steady growth. This will be the theme of this year’s EU China Business Summit. It is becoming clearer by the day that a rising population, demographic changes and changing consumption patterns are placing an increasingly heavy strain on our planet. In China in particular, fast economic growth in recent decades has led to rapid urbanisation, which for instance has provoked that questions of migration, environmental protection, public health or social well-being have moved up the agenda. Availability of technological solutions and innovation will be essential to ensure a steady growth, in China and the EU alike. In this regard, human capital formation and the encouragement of capabilities in science, technology and innovation will play a key role as potential engines for future growth.
