Jan Blomme
Position: Director of the Department Strategy & Development of the Antwerp Port Authority
°1957, MA (1981), Georgetown University, Washington D.C; Ph. D. in Economic History (1988) K.U.Leuven.
From 1988 to1991 he was project-leader in Guinée-Conakry (Africa) in several development projects and from 1991 to1993 he was the coördinator of a multidisciplinary research project with respect to international comparisons of economic productivity at the Center for Economic Studies (C.E.S.), K.U.Leuven. In 1994 he became advisor at, and in 1996 Director of the Department Strategy & Development of the Antwerp Port Authority. Since 2000, he is also Member of the Board of APEC/Flanders Port Training Center and since 2005 of APC (Antwerp Port Consulting). Fields of specialisation include port masterplanning, port privatisation and restructuring strategies, tarification strategies, international productivity comparisons, port related businessanalysis, port logistics and intermodal implementation strategies. He also teaches at the Economy Department of the Antwerp University and was author or co-author of about thirty books and articles about maritime and port-related aspects as well as economic history.
